Star Institute embraces the systematic generation of new knowledge, development of new ideas, experimentation with new techniques and the exchange of knowledge. We aim to establish research-learning methodologies and build the research and development capacity in the school workforce.

Within our network of alliances, we adopt an enquiry based approach to school improvement where practitioner led research and Joint Practice Development activity is strategically linked to the needs and priorities of each alliance.

Our focus on innovation ensures our professional development programmes are informed by the latest research and structured to instil habits of inquiry.  We encourage our trainee teachers and senior leaders alike to be reflective practitioners who use their own observations and experiences to assess the effectiveness of new approaches. We embed school based development projects within our programmes and equip our learners with the necessary skills to approach evaluation with rigour and efficiency.

A range of knowledge transfer activities support mutually beneficial collaborations between Star Institute, schools, industry and government agencies.

This research culture generates an exciting and vibrant learning community, reinforces our links with schools, and contributes to high-quality teaching and excellent professional development support.
