The minimum academic qualifications* required for the postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship are:

Primary Secondary
Typically 2.2 degree or higher Typically 2.2 degree or higher (preferably related to the subject you intend to teach)
GCSE grade 4 (previously grade C) in English, mathematics and Science GCSE grade 4 (previously grade C) in English and mathematics

Original certificates for your degree and GCSE subjects or equivalents, will need to be brought with you to the interview. If you are in your final year of study for your degree, please enter a predicted grade.

*If your qualifications were not gained in the UK, you can visit the National Academic Register Centre (NARIC) website to find out whether your qualifications are considered to be equivalent to UK GCSEs and degrees.


All candidates will be required to complete Skills Tests in Numeracy and Literacy prior to starting the Teaching Apprenticeship. This is a legal requirement. You will need to book your tests with learndirect. The first three attempts are free and candidates will then need to pay thereafter. There is no longer a cap on the number of times the Professional Skills Tests need to be taken.


Before being accepted onto the Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship, all apprentices must satisfy the DfE requirements with regards to fitness to teach. You will be required to complete a confidential medical questionnaire if you are offered a place on our apprenticeship.


The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) provides employers and other authorised organisations with details of an individual’s convictions, cautions, police reprimands and warnings held on the Police National Computer. You will not be permitted to begin your apprenticeship without being in possession of an enhanced DBS with barred list check. We will arrange for you to apply for this check when you have been offered a place on one of our programme.
