Star Institute supports professional development across all leadership roles in schools, academies and children’s centres, from leading a team to leading beyond an organisation. These include Trustees, Governors, CEOs of MATs, Executive Headteachers, Headteachers, Senior Leaders, Middle Leaders and aspiring leaders.

The Institute offers the opportunity to study a range of qualifications that provide national recognition of leadership development and professional achievement. We also provide flexible and bespoke leadership development support to meet a school or academy’s individual needs and drive school improvement priorities. We specialise in talent development and succession planning and aim to develop the future leaders to meet the most pressing needs across the sector. Programmes are shaped for and by school leaders and underpinned by international research and thinking.

To support us in the delivery of our high quality leadership development programmes and activities we’re looking for individuals with a successful and variedtrack record in school leadership to work with us as consultants.  The range of activities includes programme facilitation, leadership coaching, NPQ final assessment and content writing.   Many of our consultants fulfil more than one of these roles.

The ideal candidates will have a strong and varied track record of senior leadership in ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ school settings.  Broader experience in school to school support would be a benefit.  Applications from recently retired headteachers or senior leaders would be welcome as would applications from serving school leaders with the capacity to provide a minimum of 5 days per year.

Our coaches provide development coaching to participants on our leadership development programmes to an exceptional standard, act as advocates for Star Institute, and work with us to ensure high quality learning outcomes for our participants.  They take a proactive approach to establishing strong coaching relationships with their coaches.

We are looking for coaches who have a successful track record of school leadership and experience of leadership coaching, ideally within the education sector.  Coaches should be able to employ a variety of coaching techniques, adapting the approach in accordance with the needs of the individual, a knowledge and understanding of what constitutes outstanding coaching and a strong understanding of the challenges faced by school leaders at all levels in the current education landscape.  Coaching conversations generally take place over the telephone or by Skype so coaches can be based anywhere in the country.

Our facilitators deliver leadership development programmes to an exceptional standard, act as advocates for Star Institute and work with us to ensure high quality learning outcomes for all participants.  They take a proactive approach to ensuring that our participants experience training sessions that not only meet the learning objectives of their programme but are also stimulating and enriched with real world experience.  The role will involve delivering face to face sessions, either alone or with a co-facilitator, delivering online programme content and facilitating discussion groups for leadership programmes which will include the National Professional Qualifications.

We are looking for facilitators who have a successful track record of school leadership and experience of learning programme facilitation.  Many of our facilitators are serving school leaders whose schools will support their professional development through this  role by releasing them for a few days over the year to deliver sessions.  You will have a good knowledge of the current education landscape and challenges facing school leaders.  You will also have a strong appreciation of key research and evidence but will be able to bring it to life by sharing relevant examples from your own experiences in school leadership.

We are looking, in particular, for facilitators who are able to deliver programmes in the North West, Yorkshire and the Humber, the West Midlands.

Our NPQ Assessors deliver assessment and feedback to an exceptional standard, act as advocates for Star Institute and work with us to ensure our programmes are delivered to the highest standard.  They take a proactive approach to ensuring that our final assessment process is of the highest quality.  The role will involve marking final assessment scripts against detailed DfE assessment criteria providing participants with feedback so that they can understand how their submission was assessed and marks allocated.

We are looking for assessors who have a successful track record of school leadership and a good understanding of the NPQ programmes and their content.  Applications from those who have been involved in the delivery or facilitation of NPQ programmes will be particularly welcome.  You will certainly have experience of assessing against strict criteria.

NPQ Assessors may be based anywhere in the country but will be expected to attend training prior to being allocated scripts for assessment.

Our content writers develop high quality learning content that meets the objectives of our programmes, act as advocates for Star Institute, and work with us to ensure high quality learning outcomes for our participants.  They take a proactive approach to ensuring that our programmes have high quality learning materials and activities that reflect the topic and learning objectives and also provide good balance of theory, practical application and active participant.

We are looking for content writers who have a successful track record of producing learning content within the education sector.  Content writers should be able to balance the essential theory with practical application to meet the learning criteria of the qualifications, ensuring that participants benefit from stimulating training sessions with a good range of activities.

Content writers can be based anywhere in the country but may be expected to attend workshops in the North West and/or Yorkshire and the Humber.
